			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><p>The main aim of this research is to analyze the attitudes towards bilingualism and Basque in a school context.</p>
<p>For that purpose, a number of variables have been analyzed, such as linguistic variables (language competence, language network and language use), psychosocial variables (ethnolinguistic vitality, linguistic and cultural identity, and intergroup relations) and the influence of bilingual teaching models.</p>
<p>Participants were secondary and upper-secondary students from the region of Rioja Alavesa. Another aim of the research was to analyze the evolution of attitudes over time; therefore, the research was conducted in two stages (2001-2009).</p></p>

<p>This research is carried out among 14-16 year-old youngsters in a Basque-speaking setting. Firstly, we would like to analyse the presence of Basque in the written production of these youngsters and what the reasons behind it are.</p>
<p>Secondly, we would also like to analyse the differences between the informal and academic languages.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In many European countries, more in some than in others, English is often used in higher education. This tendency is spreading and even in our university the first steps of this methodology are being taken.</p>
<p>In this research we will analyse a subject within the degree of Social Education taught in English at the University of the Basque Country called <em>Language Planning: Social and Educational Perspectives.</em> The teacher of this subject uses only English for instruction but allows students to use either Basque or Spanish as well.</p>
<p>We will analyse the situations emerging in such a special context and the students motivations and attitudes as well. This type of researches can help tremendously the continuation of multilingual education.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This project is a follow-up of another project started in 2006, in which the competence level of immigrant students enrolled in second year of primary school (LH2) was measured.</p>
<p>Its objective is to compare the oral level of competence in Basque of autochthonous and immigrant students in 2nd and 6th year of primary school in Gipuzkoa.</p>
<p>The methodologyy used is story-telling; the students tell a story suggested with a sheet including seven pictures. The story-telling process is recorded with a camera and then it is evaluated by two specialists who follow an evaluating scheme and the results obtained by each group of students are then compared. The students in the 6th year also complete a questionnaire on attitude towards languages, self-opinion and satisfaction.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><p>This project is part of a larger multi-annual project (2007-2011) carried out by the Fryske Akademy (Friesland, The Netherlands) under contract with the Basque Ministry for Education, Universities and Research.</p>
<p>The general aim of the larger project is to do an in-depth comparison of different aspects of the multilingual education systems in both regions where a minority language (Basque and Frisian), a majority language (Spanish and Dutch), the international language English and other languages are spoken.</p>
<p>The UPV/EHU has been sub-contracted by the Fryske Akademy to do the work for the Basque part of the data-collection. In 2011 the focus in on the learning, competence and use of English, for example, regarding the training of teachers, the language learning methods used and the language learning processes of pupils. In this part of the project several questions will be asked on English inside and outside the school, in relation to the minority and the majority language.</p>
